MTM
Publishing began producing non-fiction and reference books for the library
and trade market in 1992. Originally the publishing division of The
Moschovitis Group, MTM spun off as a separate company in 2003.
Since we began
book producing in 1992, we quickly established a reputation in the library
reference market, beginning with Facts On File, Oryx, and Greenwood Press,
and expanded our client list to include CQ Press, Grolier Academic
Reference, Macmillan (Gale), M.E. Sharpe, Oxford University Press,
Routledge, Sage, and Scribners (Gale). Most recently, we've issued several
landmark reference works-including the Encyclopedia of Globalization, the
first comprehensive encyclopedia on the subject, for Routlege in 2006. By
2007, our reputation as one of the only book packagers specializing in
multi-contributor, multivolume encyclopedias is well-known. In 2001, MTM
developed TOBIN, a web-based project management tool, which is one factor
in its success as a producer of complex encyclopedic works.
Starting in 2000,
we expanded our enterprise to include helping brands, organizations, and
other entities bring their expertise and stories to the reading public.
Our partnership with the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum led to
the elegantly produced and thoroughly readable Baseball: 100 Classic Moments in the
History of the Game, publishing by DK Publishing in 2000. Our
partnership with ornithologist Stephen W. Kress and the National Audubon
Society resulted in a classic DK guidebook, called the National Audubon Society Birder's
Handbook. Our affiliation in 2006 and 2007 with the Lehman family (of
Lehman Brothers) resulted in a smartly produced and packaged anecdotal
family history, which was published by the Center for Jewish History
(distr. by Syracuse University Press, 2007). MTM has produced a
long list of superior non-fiction and reference titles, including the
award-winning History of the
Internet (ABC-CLIO, 1999), called a "monumental piece of research"
MTM's work has garnered over 20 awards. Highlights among them include
Choice's Outstanding Academic Title for World at Risk: A Global Issues
Sourcebook (CQ Press, 2002) and Atlas of U.S. and Canadian
Environmental History (Routledge, 2003); Library Journal's Best of
Reference for Encyclopedia of
Terrorism (Sage, 2003); and Society for Military History's
Distinguished Book Award for Encyclopedia of War and American
Society (Sage, 2006).
Valerie Tomaselli,
the president of MTM Publishing, is active in the publishing world. She
has served on the board of the American Book Producers Association since
2003 and in 2007 became the organization's treasurer. She has also served
as the president of the New York City chapter of the Women's National Book
Association (WNBA) since 2006 and is helping to spearhead the WNBA's
launch of the National Reading Group month in October of 2007, the year
the WNBA celebrates its 90th anniversary.
