The company's first Web site was created in 1995. From the beginning, the intent was to provide information about the company--an electronic brochure. At the time, the Group operated only two divisions ( and publishing) and all internet-related work was being done as a collaborative effort between divisions.

In late 1997 we launched the revised Web site to take advantage of the significant browser improvements available and to demonstrate some of the navigation & design options to an increasing number of clients that were seeking entry into the medium.

The current site, launched in the Fall of 2000, is far more streamlined, offering a lot more information, and to our knowledge is the first to offer this type of comprehensive "go anywhere" Flash-powered navigation. This web site is also the first in our history to clearly distinguish the three divisions: , Publishing, and Internet. The site was designed for an audience that has a browser of version 4.x and higher, preferably with the Macromedia Flash plug-in installed. Although both major browser platforms (Netscape and Microsoft) have been tested successfully with the site, the design favors the Internet Explorer versions.

The current design is for a monitor capable of displaying resolutions of 800 by 600 pixels and color depth of 16 bits. Our research shows that over 90% of our audience falls into this group. For the remaining 10%, the site was designed to detect both an older browser and the absence of the Macromedia Flash plug-in, redirecting the user to a "pure" HTML version of the site. We consciously choose to use HTML rather than DHTML because of the weight of the DHTML pages and the fact that a good percent of our audience is international, connecting at relatively slow modem speeds. Finally, the site will detect access by a wireless appliance (e.g. palm pilot, internet-ready cell phones) redirecting the user to our text-only version of the site.
